Today Jeff talks about maximizing weight loss.

Maximizing Weight Loss: How To Fine Tune Calorie Density

by Jeff Novick, MS, RD

This note is in response to questions I frequently get about weight loss.   The questions usually have to do with not losing weight at all, not losing enough weight or not losing weight fast enough.

Weighing yourself on a scale on a weekly basis is the best method to tell if you are in a negative calorie balance.  To do so, weigh yourself on the same scale, in the same place, at the same time, in the same clothes.  For the most accurate weight, weigh yourself without clothes on,  first thing in the morning after awakening and going to the bathroom.

On average, you should be able to safely and healthfully lose about 1(-2)% of your weight a week and maybe even more.   This amount is an average over time and some weeks you will lose more and some weeks will be less. Those who have the most weight to lose, will lose the most weight in the beginning.  While 1(-2)% may not seem like much, if you multiply the number out by 12 weeks, 24 weeks or even 52 weeks, this could easily equal 24, 48 or 100 lbs or more.

Now, if you are not losing weight, the first thing to do is to review the principles of calorie density and make sure you understand them and are applying them correctly.   You can find these principles outlined in the newsletter, “A Common Sense Approach To Sound Nutrition.”

If you are following the principles of calorie density and your excess weight is not coming off as quickly as you would like, then there are some adjustments you can make to what you are doing in regard to the “calories in” and the “calories out” end of the equation.

In regard to calories out, you have three areas you can make adjustments,  which are frequency, intensity and time (FIT). You can exercise on more days or more times in a day (Frequency), you can raise the intensity of your exercise (Intensity), and/or you can do it for a longer period of time (Time). For most people, 150 minutes of exercise per week, should be more than enough.

In regard to calories in, you can lower the calorie density of the diet, by shifting the composition of your meals to include more foods that are the lowest in calorie density (vegetables, salads, soups, etc).   Make sure 1/3 to 1/2 of the visual volume of all your meals are low calorie dense vegetables. The other 1/2- 2/3 should be unrefined, un-(or minimally)-processed complex carbohydrates (legumes, intact whole grains, starchy vegetables.

In addition, you can make the following modifications:

- Salt: For many people, salt seems to act as an appetite stimulant. So, the less you salt your food, the less people tend to eat.

- Variety: For many people, having a variety of foods available at each meal also seems to encourage over consumption. Therefore, the less variety at a meal, the less food consumed.

- Raw Foods: Foods you can eat raw tend to be lower in calorie density and may not digest as efficiently as cooking helps the digestion process.

- Sequencing: Eat the lowest calorie dense foods first. This fills you up so you eat less of the higher calorie dense foods.

- Avoid (or strictly limit):

- all higher fat, calorie dense plant foods, nuts, seeds, oils, avocados,

tofu, etc.

- all refined processed grains & starches that are higher in calorie density

(breads, bagels, crackers, cookies, dry cereal, tortilla’s etc & anything

made from ground up flour) even if they are whole grain.

-all concentrated sugars/sweeteners  (sugar, brown sugar, agave, honey,

molasses, date sugar, etc) even if they are natural and organic

- all dried fruits.

If you follow the principles of calorie density and make the necessary adjustments as needed, you will lose weight in a healthy way at a healthy rate.

Trying to persuade my hubby that plant based is the way to go, but he’s reluctant due to thinking things won’t taste as good. I would love to have a copy of Burgers and Fries. Our resources are severely strained right now, as 2 young adult boomerang kids have returned after job losses. Finding inexpensive, tasty, and familiar ways to convert them to plant strong would be a win-win in every way!

  22. LC says:

I’d love the DVD because my husband and I both love plant-strong burgers, and they’re quick and convenient to make which is newly important in our house — we have a 9 week old baby now!

  23. Susan says:

I am introducing several friends to a plant-based diet. Last evening we watched your McDougall ASW presentation (cooking demonstration). It was so practical and most needed (meal preparation, I think, is where most people fail with their diet). Thank you for your simple, easy meal ideas! Your burger segment generated the most interest, and I think your DVD would be an invaluable resource to have on hand to show others.

  24. Angie says:

Thanks. Can you pls explain more about the comment on raw foods and digestion? Are you saying that is a problem for weight loss results? I eat a HUGE salad with raw salad veg every day, should I eat less of that and instead eat more cooked veg? confused now. Thanks!

  25. Debbie says:

I’d love a copy of Burgers and Fries because Novick really just makes so much sense and I need to get my grocery budget down! ;)

  26. Summer is coming & that is the time for burgers!

  27. Amber says:

I’ve been eating a low fat, whole foods, vegan diet for eight months now and I already own a copy of Jeff’s “Burgers and Fries” DVD. I have type 1 diabetes and my goal is to do everything I can so that my child and her children eat in a way to increase their chances of avoiding this and other chronic diseases. One of the challenges I still have is dealing with my daughter’s paternal grandparents’ way of eating. I would love to give them a copy of Jeff’s DVD!

  28. Karen says:

I’m the only plant-strong eater in my family. My husband and kids are not into it yet. I would love to be able to make foods they like that are plant strong!

  29. Gregory Scott says:

    Jeff,
After attending the Farms to Forks event in January my wife and I adopted your rules. We were both already following a Vegan lifestyle but at 6’1 and 214lbs I was overweight. We cut salt, all oils and limited nuts, seeds and dried fruit to condiments only. We also eliminated smoothies and instead we now chew all of our calories. I have dropped 25 lbs (189 this morning) since January.
My wife who was already in great shape and an avid triathlete has dropped 10 lbs and weighs less than she did in high school.
Thank you for all that you do.
    Regards,

  30. Great advice! I lost a ton of weight at first and am now losing about 1 pound a week. I’ve been pretty happy with the loss! Your DVDs would be perfect for my wife and I and our 1-year old. He can easily eat a veggie patty everyday at daycare for lunch and I would love to have some more recipes for those.

  31. Nicola G says:

Great info about weight loss–I’d always heard 1 to 2 pounds/week, which sounds dismally slow. Realizing it should be 1 to 2 Percent, not pounds, is something (about 68%of my current weight is overweight!) I am working toward more nutrient-dense eating, and would like to win “Burgers and Fries”, which is a great way to stuff more nutrition into a tasty, semi-portable food.

  32. Linda Gross says:

It’s burger and fries season so I picked up a beautiful book on vegan burgers only to find they like to use oil in almost every burger! I’ve been plant-strong thanks to E-2 and the entire FOK crew for the last 2 years and it’s been the best thing I’ve ever done for my health. My friend and I now do cooking classes monthly in our little community and will be trying to channel Jeff N. as we demo your 5-ingredient super-meal at the local health fair in two weeks. We probably won’t be as funny and entertaining! Thanks for leading the way!

  33. Marthaeo says:

“Burgers and Fries,” OMG I love the title! Would love to have a copy!

  34. Juanita Loewenberg says:

Love how well you explain nutrition, Jeff. Look forward to your next blog post! Would love to win a copy of your DVD – all the people on the McDougall boards talking about the recipes has made it one of the biggest items on my wish list!

  35. Anna says:

I am always on the out look for more wonderful receipes for plant based oil free foods that dont require hours to prepare. Would love this DVD!!!

  36. suemvi says:

Would love a copy of Burgers and Fries for my 30 year old son. He just found out that his total cholesterol is 260 and is working on changing to a vegan diet-he needs some easy recipe ideas!

  37. CindyJ1S says:

I’d love a copy because before my switch to a plant-based diet my favorite meal was a home made bacon cheeseburger from the charcoal grill. Even on Mother’s Day. At any rate, nothing says summer quite like a burger and fries.

  38. BusyMom says:

Busy working mom needs fast food!

  39. Pam says:

The reason why I would love to own a copy of the Burgers and Fries DVD is that I am a visual person and I need to see to be taught how to cook recipes – I need pictures or DVD know-hows. I love Jeff’s sense of humor – it comes out shining in his write-ups and I would totally love to see it ‘live’. My husband is still an omni and I as summer is coming I would like him to eat Jeff’s burgers rather than the bad-old-meaty ones. He can watch and see how easy it is to make them too. Thanks for the chance to win a copy. :)

  40. I would LOVE a copy of Burgers and Fries! I have been making great strides in changing the way my family eats and even how we view food, BUT…I have a 14 yr old extremely picky eater (and hubby sometimes) and she doesn’t like to try most of the foods I prepare. I need to find great tasting foods that they will enjoy to replace what the normally like to eat (without going for the processed veggie burgers and such). Thank you so much for this great opportunity!!!

  41. Kirsten says:

Love this post and am looking forward to reading his posts weekly! I would love to have this DVD, as I would love to introduce more yummy veggies to my hubby (who is not 100% plant strong yet). :)

  42. Jean D. says:

I murdered my own version of sweet potato fries. SOS! I need expert help.

    Thanks for a great giveaway!

  43. momhanks says:

I’m a grandma trying to teach her carnivore family that plant based is better. Would love a copy of your dvd.

I need help with the burger thing. I have tried a few, but the taste isn’t as good as I would like it to be.

  45. Monica W. says:

I am plant-strong, but my husband is not and loves burgers and fries! He continues to eat this stuff out there and I need the DVD’s help to prove to him that the healthy versions of his favorite foods are delicious and better! Help! ;)

  46. Toni Kulma says:

I would love to introduce the people at church to your burgers and fries DVD. They are skeptics of course even though I am now thin and have a cholesterol count of 107. Delicious taste will do the trick when nothing else will!

  47. Kelly says:

Iv’e been wanting this DVD for sometime now. (Bean) Burgers are a staple here at our house and would love some new ideas.

  48. I’d love to have a copy. I was looking at the order page and would love to find a recipe for a burger that doesn’t ooze out of the bun!

  49. wendellsmom says:

Becoming plant based has changed my health- mind and body- and I’m in awe of the influence it has had on the people in my life who are gradually switching from being skeptics to plant adopters. I would love to win a copy so I can share more wonderful recipes with my friends and family. Every good meal brings them one step closer to being as healthy as can be!

  50. Val Schmale says:

Oh I would love to win this…I’m on my second day of E2. I need all the help I can get! I’ve been a carnivore for 48 years, this is freaking me out that I like this so well.

  51. Kathy G says:

Jeff’s credentials are incredible! He doles out information in an easily understandable method and his recipes are not only easy, they are tasty!

  52. Martha says:

I’d love to have a Jeff’s DVD to share with my daughter whose family is trying to “go vegan” the healthy way.

  53. Erin S says:

I would love a copy of Burger and Fries to give my plant based family of six new healthy burgers for this coming BBQ season.

  56. Tammy says:

So glad to see Jeff’s new column! And very happy for a chance to win his DVD…been meaning to buy it because I love the recipes of his which I’ve already tried. Would love to win it so I can learn more tips. Thanks for the chance! :-)

  57. Average American says:

Thanks for your insightful tips! I live a completely plant-based, whole foods life. My omnivorous boyfriend has a significant amount of weight to lose. He is on board with plant-strong living when he eats home, which accounts for 60-75% of his food intake. Since he is being so supportive of my efforts, I strive to make vegan meals that he will not only tolerate, but will love. A copy of “Burgers & Fries” would be of great help! Thank you!

  58. EddieF. says:

I would like a copy of “Burgers and Fries” to show at the community center of the senior housing facility where I live. I see so many who should not be on scooters at their relatively young age. But, I have no credentials, other than successful reversal of several physical issues through plant based diet, and who can comprehend that who is stuck on the food plan that got them where they are today – shopping for scooter batteries?
    : )

  59. Tracy says:

With 7 children it gets too expensive to buy veggie burgers not to mention that there aren’t many that are truly good for you. With two of our children being teenagers we go through a LOT of food. I would love to have Jeff’s DVD to help us to know how to make our own burgers and fries for our family!

  60. Angie Nelson says:

I have your shopping DVD and would like to add this one to my collection :0)

  61. Lisa McCann says:

I would love to have a copy, my husband and I are transitioning to a plant strong diet but he misses his junk food, i.e. hamburgers. I have not found a burger he likes at this point, seems like your book would be just the fit.

  62. Starla says:

My family and I have been trying to eat more healthy, and I would love to have a copy. :)

  63. I would love to win this!! Last year our son went into the Airforce, and all his hard work and dedication to his health and getting in shape really inspired us. So, we wanted to get in shape and healthier before we went to see him at his graduation of basic training. A friend of mine told me about the documentary, Forks Over Knives. We watched, and long story short, it was very eye opening and inspiring. Since then we have been going thru the process of adapting a plant strong lifestyle. I do need more help and recipes that i can make for my husband and teen daughter that they would really enjoy and help make the change easier on them. Quick, easy, and healthy recipes would be great for this busy mom and wife(:

  64. I would love a copy of this book- I’m always looking for family friendly recipes that everyone from the picky toddler to my omni husband will enjoy. This looks promising :-)

  65. Kim says:

I am new to the calorie density way of eating. Looking forward to learning more!

  66. JoAnne says:

I can use all the help I can get, I would love to have this book!

  67. I would LOVE a copy of the DVD “Burger and Fries!” I enjoy doing health and wellness presentations on my free time and this would be a great opportunity to share with others on how important it is to live a plant strong life style.

  68. LindaLMC says:

I started the plant based eating lifestyle a few weeks ago and I am totally sold. It makes perfect sense. I have more energy, I am losing weight, I am feeling wonderful. I am learning to cook foods I’ve never before heard of and learning to turn my favorite foods into healthy plant based yummies. The Burgers and Fries DVD would be a very welcomed addition in my new journey.

  69. Shan says:

Practically everyone on my dad’s side of the family has type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high BP, sleep apnea, etcetera. Several have had bypass surgeries. I’m 33 and overweight and transitioning toward a plants-based diet. I’d rather be preventative than head into middle age on an unhealthy path. I don’t have the income to buy books right now and depend on the internet. A book would be great :-)

  70. Shana says:

Who doesn’t love burgers and fries? Even omnivores would love your recipes, Jeff! This would give me the perfect tools to win them over. Love that you’re going to be a regular on E2. I’ve already devoured everything I can find online that Jeff has put out there. Love his sensibility and sense of humor.

  71. Laura Arnold says:

I love watching you speak, and my family’s favorite recipe is your Fast Food Veg Loaf. I would use your cookbook all the time!

  72. Cristina says:

We are new to the Engine 2 Nutrition plan, and I have to learn how to cook vegan! We are nine days in, and I feel FABULOUS! I’m not looking back!

  73. Ananda says:

I would truly enjoy winning a copy of this DVD. I’m currently going to school to be a plant based nutritionist. I struggled for over a decade with an eating disorder and I want to help others heal through nutrition the way I have.

  74. I love Jeff Novick. His advice is honest, straight-forward, and backed by reliable research.

  75. The reason I would love one is because my desire for more knowledge and information outreaches my budget. The more I learn the better my choices and my information to share with others.

  76. Karen Hardy says:

My husband and are have started the Engine 2 plan in order to regain our health that has dwindeled over the past couple of years. We are already experiencing new engergy!!

  77. My husband & I started plant based on feb 5th. Any new information made available to us would be greatly appreciated. We, as most people, are on a tight budget and can’t afford extra dvds or books, so your burger and fries would be so welcome. WE watch as many free documentaries on netflix and hulu that we can. We soak up as much as we can! Keep up the great work!

  78. So happy to see Jeff every Tuesday! I would like a copy for my brother who is working on becoming plant strong. I don’t want to lend him my copy, because it took him 9 months to give me back my Engine 2 Diet book!

  79. Brenda Rowe says:

I need to try your recipes!! I have been following the Engine 2 Nutrition plan from the first book. For two months now I am loosing weight but not as much as I would like. I must be doing something wrong. I have Fibromyalgia and Osteo Arthritis in my back. I also have troubles with my disc’s coming out of place very easily. I try to exercise walking works best for me however, to often the pain is too much for me to exercise. I am hoping a plant strong diet will help me with some of this pain. Your books look great! I am going to have to try some of them.

  80. Julee says:

    This sounds awesome!

  81. lkjuhl says:

I would LOVE a copy of Burgers and Fries. I am struggling with weight loss and trying to go vegetarian. I always enjoy reading your articles!

  84. Kim says:

After my husband experienced heart issues and discovered a blockage in the “widow maker” artery, I set out on a journey to discover a compatible yet delicious new lifestyle. It turns out that all three of our sons (18, 22, & 25) have joined us in our quest to eat a healthier diet. We started our plant-based journey on February 20, 2013, and we are still going strong.

    • Amy Johnson says:

Kim…We did the same! Our 21 year old son got us to watched FoK and we became vegans 10 months ago!

  85. Aimee Anthony says:

I would absolutely LOVE a copy! I am trying to switch to plant strong and I am in need of some good recipes to help convince my husband that plant strong food tastes good!! 86. Vegan since Jan 1st 2013 and hungry for more knowledge. Love your posts Jeff

  87. Greetings from Holland! I’m a big fan. I wish more people in the Netherlands knew about you and your amazing work. If I win this DVD, I will show it to everyone I know. And maybe you’ll be a hit here.

  88. Zack Allen says:

I’d love a copy. Been plant-strong for a year now, but my nobody else in my family has followed suit. Anytime I can make meals that appeal to them is a plus.

  89. Jane Smith says:

I do notice when I salt things, that I tend to eat more, and there are just some foods that I plain don’t like without salt. I’ve been plant based for 2 years, but I still sprinkle a little salt on top of some foods.

  90. Carolyn Brown says:

Jeff Novick takes the fear out of anyone who thinks that they will be spending too much time doing food prep in the kitchen if they go plant strong. His Fast Food makes life so much easier, and I would LOVE to have a copy of his Burgers and Fries video to add to my collection!

  91. Robin Bennett says:

I started my plant based eating on January 7th. I have never felt better. My 13 yr old son has been doing it too. I feel you need to lead by example and your children will follow. I love the weight I have lost and also that I am never hungry. The best news is my blood pressure which was pre hypertention is now within the normal levels. We went to a friends for Easter and they had meat and all the stuff that is not good for you. My son had some and he told me he would of rather had one of the black bean burgers I make from the Engine 2 book!! I had some in my fridge at home. I am on a tight budget but my heath and the health of my son’s is well worth it. Any books would be a blessing to us. I rented your book from the library and copied a few of the recipes down but would love a new book to be able to keep!!

  92. Dawn says:

Thanks so much for the information. I am struggling to lose weight and see now where I need to make some adjustment! ~smile~

  93. Pam says:

This is day two for my hubby and I following the Engine2Diet! Hoping our health issues will change drastically. Love to learn more about this new lifestyle.

  94. Kristen says:

Me please! I w ould love this book because it is for more than just me. I began posting plant-strong meals in January and started a trend with my friends. Now I have a dozen friends going plant-strong with me! Amazing. I have having a great time exchanging info with me friends. Puls I went from a size 8 to a 2 in 40 days!!!!

  95. I started my Plant-Based journey on March 4th. I suffer from a few auto-immune dieseses and obesity. I have seen great things in just a months time. My blood pressure is lower and I have started to lose weight without feeling deprived. I feel so good that I was able to eat Easter dinner with my family and not be tempted with the high calorie processed foods in front of me. I would love to read any book that I can to help me continue my journey.

I’d love to win a copy I could share with my parents. They decided to go plant strong, but are struggling to change habits and deal with visitors. They even mentioned cook-outs as being a worry. I’m a happily committed vegan but can always benefit from new info and recipes!

  98. franberry says:

I have been vegan and very lowfat for over a year now…Have tried several burger recipes and have not found one yet that is a favorite…I would enjoy the burger fry book as burgers and fries are one of my favorite things…

  99. tinker bee says:

My only scale is at the gym, but, if you suggest weighing without clothes, I’ll weigh without clothes. A girl’s gotta do, what a girl’s gotta do. Oh, and said scale is not in the women’s locker room, but on the workout floor! We’ll see if I still have a membership after this! ha!!

  100. Ron Ziegler says:

All normal people love meat. If I went to a barbeque and there was no meat, I would say, “Yo Goober! Where’s the meat?” I’m trying to impress people here, Lisa. You don’t win friends with salad. -Homer Simpson

I want to win friends with Jeff’s Burgers.

  101. Ross says:

I love burgers, and I love eating healthy. How cool it would be to do both at the same time!

  102. Would love to receive a copy because I have 3 little boys who love fries & burgers. Husband & I have started our journey of plant food but I also want our little boys to have an early healthy start on eating right. Never too early to start!

  103. Lindsay says:

I’ve been plant based for about 8 months and have tried a few different burger recipes. I haven’t really found one that I love yet, so this book would be perfect! :)

  104. My mom has high cholesterol and my dad has prostate cancer. I would love to win this for them. They took the 28 day challenge and things are getting better but as much help as possible is always good!

  105. Bobbie says:

I have struggled with weight issues my whole life. I am now 58 yrs old and finding it even more difficult to get even 5 lbs off. The weight has affected my physical ability to exercise so I need help with an eating plan that will work. There are so many “voices” out there but I read so many great testimonies of how this approach is helping so many. Would love a copy of the DVD.

  106. LT Kerr says:

Ten weeks strong on plant-strong lifestyle — flying solo. Would love to incorporate more familiar foods into the family’s diet and Burgers and Fries would certainly fly with my crew. Any of Dr. Novick’s videos I’ve watched on our computer have been insightful and helpful. Would love to add one to our library. Thanks for the opportunity to win one.

  107. Joaniejoan says:

The reason I want to win is that while I am doiong okay on the E2 diet (with a few slip ups here and there), I want to get better at it and the more information I have, the better! Also have been laid off for a year and money is tight….

  108. Monica Trujillo says:

We have an autistic teen daughter who is prone to weight gain. My husband and I have been plant based for almost a year. I heard your DVD’s are amazing! Looking for healthy alternatives to offer my daughter and ourselves. Just want to say thank you for sharing your wisdom, knowledge and supporting us on this journey in health and wellness. You are an inspiration!

  109. Sharon says:

I’d love a copy of the book because I’ve been plant strong since August 2012 and I have yet to make my own burgers. I eat Morning Star frozen veggie and black bean or veggie burgers at various restaurants, but would love to find a recipe I like and do it myself. I LOVE burgers and potatoes!!! Thanks Jeff and Engine 2!

  110. Holly MyPlantBasedFamily says:

I need this book! I’m pretty creative in the kitchen but I haven’t been able to pull of a good burger and fry combo. I refuse to eat the processed store bought stuff but sometimes I really want a burger.

  111. Kate says:

I am in school to become a Registered Dietitian. It’s so hard listening to information I just know is not true (such as we all must have milk for calcium and such). What a wonderful thing to see an RD using his credentials for good and going against the status quo. I hope to follow in those foot steps if I can just make it through this program. Would love a copy of the book! These kinds of books are what prove to me and others that you CAN be just as healthy if not more healthy on a plant strong lifestyle.

  112. Maureen says:

Always appreciate the refresher info. More recipes for burgers and fries always great.

  113. I’ve been on a plant-based diet for 2 years now and have convinced my husband to eat plant-based 5 days a week. He knows my numbers are very healthy, but he also thinks I look great as result of the diet. I look forward to all your advice and tips on cooking for this healthy lifestyle. I would love to have Jeff’s DVD as a tool to get him to eat plant-based full-time.

  114. Kim A. says:

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and have been taking medication for the past 6 years…..I want to be healthy and strong in my later years…sooo I gave up dairy last year and that made a difference and then this year we have become 90% plant based and feel even better…..however I’m afraid to go backwards because I find myself cooking the same things….I need a good cookbook to add to the great ones I have for some variety to continue my feel good journey……oh and wait until my Rheumatologist gets a look at me in May loll

  115. I have been eating Boca burgers and now I find out about hexane and soy protein! I would LOVE a copy of this book since I am a burger junkie and want to stay on the right path.

  116. Jennie says:

I would love this DVD because it’s the one that EVERYONE talks about!! My family loves burgers and I need these recipes to keep them off the meat ones!!

  117. maireadreddy says:

I have tried making my own homemade burgers, and they are hit-or-miss. Usually miss!! I would love the DVD to learn how to make them winners every time!
    Thanks! =)

  118. Andrea Smith says:

The book looks great! I’m just beginning a plant-based diet and it would be wonderful to have some tried-and-true recipes for vegan burgers and fries.

  119. GivePeasa Chance says:

I made your black bean burgers this past weekend and each of my boys wolfed down 2! Just started as a vegan (Feb, 13) after being a vegetarian for 2.5 years. Have already lost 18 lbs and many more to go. My family is now primarily eating vegan….baby steps!

  120. Cassie says:

    I would love a copy!

  121. Catherine Polumbus says:

If it’s as much fun and helpful as your Engine 2 book – it’s a must read! These dishes are good and easy and quick. The best part is the flavors, they make all the difference! Your stories are incredible, sincere and fun. Keep up the good work!

  122. Kristi Bowman says:

I’ve been plant based for a little over a year, not doing as well lately and I’m feeling it. Anything that might help me back on track would be a wonderful bonus!

  123. Sandy Crowley says:

LOVE LOVE LOVE your black bean burgers! Cant wait to try out more of your recipes!

  124. This is my 10th year plant based, I began at age 59 and am healthier now than ever before. I am just starting to collect cookbooks and would love Burgers and Fries….

  125. I would love to win the DVD because 6 months after dragging my family ( kicking, screaming, and whining) into a whole food, plant based diet, and trying hundreds of recipes off of the internet, I still haven’t been able to make a decent “burger” for them :D

  126. Stephanie says:

I am a graduate student, stay-at-home mom of 2, and a wife. I manage to keep my family plant-strong with my very tight schedule but it can be stressful. A free DVD and book will help me kick some of the stress!

  127. I would love a copy! I started my plant-based lifestyle in June 2012. In February 2012, I went vegetarian and initially tried those 21-day vegan kickstarts for the health benefits and weight loss. After doing a second one, I realized when I went back to eating vegetarian, that I really missed eating vegan! Imagine the surprise lol. I can tell you (anybody who is more recently starting on the journey) that the cravings of grilled meats that once made your mouth water will wane over time. It’s kind of a victorious feeling when that happens. It’s not been easy, and there are a lot of critics out there, but I have faith :) I have a family of 2 little boys and one big one who says he cannot live without meat, still. BUT he does support me. He does not chastise me in any way and he does at least attempt to like the plant-based foods that I make, some better than others. My dream is for my whole family to be plant-strong one day. Jeff’s BURGERS & FRIES would really help!! <3 Nicole N
& P.S. (Today just so happens to be my 32nd birthday ;) )

  128. Robin Davis says:

My husband and I are just getting started on the plant strong diet and could use all the resources we can get our hands on. I would so love this!

  129. Kelli says:

I think lots of raw food is working well for me. Most of the nutrients are preserved when the food is not heated. I eat some cooked sprouted grains and beans and occasional steamed of water-cooked vegetables. I do a lot of green juices and smoothies that are low-glycemic.

  130. Missy Perez says:

My husband experienced his first issues just over a year and a half ago. I am constantly looking for better receipes that save time and money without having to purchase anything but straight up whole food, unrefined, etc. Burgers and fries are the ones I have NOT perfected yet and used to be a staple for us as we loved grilling outdoors, something we haven’t done now in almost two years. With the pool season coming, this would be a great addition to our list of menu items and would be a great addition to his recovery journey back to the “new normal” of living and eating health. Thank you

  131. Jennifer M says:

I am fairly new to the plant-based life and am always looking for new information and new recipes to help me on this journey.

  132. Lauren Bucks says:

I would love a copy to be able to make healthier choices.

  133. Vicky says:

My husband and I have been making changes to our diet for quite sometime, but after seeing my Dad suffer thru bypass surgery and then die a year later with congestive heart failure, I decided I never wanted to go thru that. The dvd, Burgers and Fries, would be a help to us, but, like a lot of others, our budget won’t allow us to buy it right now. We appreciate all the wonderful information.

  134. Growing up on a farm in the midwest, our family ate a lot of meat and potatoes. Also a lot of bacon, ham and pies. I would like a copy of your healthy burger and fries dvd, so I could learn to make health versions of my favorites. My Dad and brother both suffered heart attacks and surgery because of poor diet and smoking.

  135. I would love a copy of your because…I AM COMPLETELY LOST!! I know everything we eat is killing us and I am so overwhelmed as to where to start making changes. I feel horrible when I serve my family (husband and three sons) dinner because I am always questioning if I am actually feeding and nourishing them or if I am actually harming them. Please help me :)

  136. BrendaLeeS says:

I think this DVD would be a great help in reinforcing our food choices for my 5 year old son. He loves watching documentaries (usually about animales) when he has screen time and something like this would probably whet his appetite for some healthy burgers and fries.

  137. roneal2540 says:

Looking for anything that will help get my boyfriend and kids eating plant strong!

  138. Ellen says:

I have just recently transitioned our family to a plant-based diet, and I love it..but it is hard with 2 small children and a meat-loving husband! He is being very supportive but I would love to have more information and recipes to show him how truly delicious this lifestyle can be! Also, my kids are having a hard time with some of the new foods but will eat anything in (bean)burger form! Just found this site, and I’m so grateful, thanks!!

  139. Rose Mac says:

My husband and I started the 28 day challenge back in January with our local Whole Foods; we have never looked back and are feeling better every day and losing weight. My chloesterol has dropped from 191 to 153 and all my aches and pains have disappeared! YEAH! We have a 20 year old son that needs to make some changes and I would love to have Burgers and Fries to share with him. He is college and is not always making the best choices.

  140. I am a mother of 2 (almost 3) and love making kid friendly vegan foods. Plus the kids can get involved in making the patties!!

  141. Naomi says:

Plant strong burgers and fries are the perfect meal to keep my 4 person family happy and plant strong. Our family includes a vegan, a vegetarian, a 9 year old carnivore and a 7 year old who describes himself as “1/2 vegetarian, 1/2 vegan.” I would love to have more variations on this family dinner theme!

  142. Sherry says:

I would love to win a copy of Jeff’s “Burgers” video…
I love his teaching with humor style, & I do not have any
of his videos, although I’ve watched clips online. I’ve been
a vegetarian for years: I’d love to avoid the processed
veggie burgers, & find one that my meat-eating husband
    would like, too.

  143. Busymom says:

My husband and I have given up soda, finally. We were both addicted to the sugar so much so that we sometimes went through a 12 pack in a couple of hours and our kids were getting hooked as well. Now we are on our way, and although he usually gives me a really hard time about trying new things he has agreed to at least taste them before refusing to eat it. I have already made some wonderful meals that we have all enjoyed. Now with summer coming, I still want to make “burgers” but they don’t have to be red meat or any meat. I love portobellos on the grill!
Would love to receive the “Burgers and Fries” book and try every recipe!
    Thank you!

  144. jlo says:

I would love “burgers and fries” as my daughter and I are completely vegan (for a year now) and we just can’t convice my husband and son to join us – I think making a good burger/fry dinner may do the trick!

  145. Krissy says:

    Two words burgers/fries

  146. CKB says:

I can always benefit from new insights into my health. Thanks for the info and the opportunity to win this awesome book!

  147. disqus_aONoQ0WXK7 says:

I hope to leave a legacy of eating for healthy living to my children and my grandchildren :)

  148. Amy G says:

I’ve been wanting to try Burgers and Fries” for months: it is absolutely one meal that my family of four truly enjoys together.

  149. I decide to go Plant strong to help my son with autism, After many hours of research, i have learn lowering the casein and gluten in his diet could help him. After only two weeks i have notice a big improvement in both my oldest son behavior and also in my youngest, he is calmer, happier and less irritable, not just in them either, I notice my own health improvement, no headache, way more energy and just all around better feeling. We are going plant strong for both mental and physical health.

  150. Elaine Jones says:

How do I change my husbands view on meat?! or pleasure seeking food?

  151. Lisa Shamaly says:

We eat SNAP meals once or twice a week and would love a copy of the DVD. Love his SNAP burgers.

  152. Melissa says:

I would looooove a copy because I teach plant based classes once a month and I bring foods for them to try. If I had his recipes people would definitely understand that you can eat healthy and not sacrifice taste! Being plant strong is my biggest passion, and any new recipes I can try would help share my passion with others!

  153. Tiana D. says:

Love Jeff and his principles are so easy to follow. I’ve shared many times his method of reading labels (although I do not eat many processed foods now) with others and it just makes so much sense.

  154. Monika says:

I’d love a copy to prepare myself for bbq season this summer!! Would love to take some plant strong burgers to cookouts.

  155. Elissa Ward says:

I would love to have a copy do I can follow his vegan ways! Saving money, stayiong healthy and feeding my fam of 6…

  156. Christina says:

Everyone in my family has high cholesterol. I want to have healthy eating habits and set a good example for my two young children.

  157. Joy Hamm says:

A big thank you to Rip and his team at Engine 2. Thanks to you my husband and I are full on Plant Strong and our 6 children are almost there. Would love to win and add more variety to our meals. The one thing my kids have missed is a good burger.

  158. Always good information, thank you! And I am DYING to get my hand on that Burgers & Fries DVD!

  159. I just turned my home from typical American Diet to plant strong. The change is going well (we are entering week 5.) My husband and teenage daughters are loving it. My teen son however misses some of the typical American “cool” food. This book looks like it would help me win him over.

  160. Ali says:

I have been wanting this for a year! Love Jeff & his message. Would love to win!

  161. Whatthe heck I’l give it a shot. Last March 2012 I was sent home to enjoy what days I had left. Open heart and seven stents failed the last stent lasted 14 days, thank Gd for creating my own small bypass. I bought Dr Esselstyn’s book read on Thursday the 22nd and started plant based on Friday the 23rd of March 2012. At that time I was 285, had sleep apnena, barretts esophagus, GERDS, neuropathy along with the heart disease oh did I say taking 22 pills a day.I’m 6’5 222 now, blood work according to my doctor unbelievable. All of the above things have passed under the bridge and gone down stream thanks to the plant based lifstyle. Zero pills not even plavic which caused my Heart doctor to almost have a heart attack :). I would like the video but if not I do want to thank you for teaching me how to read lables how to shop and giving me fantasic meal ideas.

  162. NC Girl says:

My weight has spiraled out of control over the last 10 years and I am concerned about looming health related issues, not to mention suffering from anxiety attacks every night wondering if this was the night I would die of a heart attack or have a stroke. So, I set out following Dr Fuhrman’s Plant based Eat to Live with my husband joining me at the beginning of Feb. I can’t even begin to explain the peace of mind I have now falling asleep at night, I have lost 20 lbs and my husband 18 lbs. My energy has gone thru the roof, I feel so alive!

The only difficulty would be dinner’s I need quick & easy, your cook book would fit the bill and keep my husband going strong! I’m fine, but he is such a meat & potatoes guy…please help!

  163. I would love a copy of this book because I’m 52 years old and I need to get healthy. I want the next half of my life to be even better than the first!

  164. Aggie says:

I’ve been plant-strong for nearly a year – lost some weight, but need to lose more. I’m a lifelong “yo-yo” dieter, so I know it will not be easy. I know there are some things I’m probably not doing right, and I’m looking to learn all I can!

  165. As the only vegetarian in my burger loving family, I am constantly searching for something that is comparable to a real burger that I can eat with my family. I have tried black bean burgers and the “veggie” burgers but so far I am the only one that really will eat them. I would love some help:)

  166. Mandie000304 says:

I’m fortunate enough to have a husband who supports me in my vegetarianism. He’s very sweet about eating plant-based meals most days, but I know he still craves a burger and fries from time to time. I’ve tried a few recipes. Some were a hit (split pea burgers) some were not (a horrible oatmeal-based burger). I’d like to be able to find one he loves to have as a staple and maybe even convert him to giving up meat completely. That’s where he gets hung up- the “real” thing still being “better” than the substitute.

  167. Cee says:

I’d love a copy. My husband and I have recommitted, and are looking for new recipes. I’ve had a pretty limited diet recently due to GI issues, but hope to jump fully back in following my EDG on Monday.

  168. Lacy says:

Through all of my self guided education through documentaries and books in the last year, I have also supported and motivated a couple+ handfuls of individuals to go plant based and change their health in huge ways! I could definitely add to my library to educate even more and keep helping others :) I would LOVE the DVD!!!!

  169. Elaine says:

great to have you here Jeff! I would LOVE to add these amazing DVDs to my ever growing plant based library … knowledge is power !!

  170. My “problem” with burgers and fries is that I want ketchup to go with them. This is bad for me on several levels, including salt and sugar! Do you have any suggestions for substitutes for ketchup on burgers and fries? Or do you eat them plain?

  171. Shirley G says:

OMG I would like one. It’s hard to please my husband, specially being from Poland, so I think providing a good “burger” would help my husband realize that it isn’t the meat that gives the good taste, it’s the seasoning put together. If I can make veggie hamburgers everyday, he’ll wouldn’t even know he was eating veggie burger.

  172. I am new to plant strong. I would love this to help me learn some new receipes

  173. I would love a copy, because I am very new to all this and the way of eating. I am trying hard to eat better as a vegitarian/ vegan, but I am still eating the wrong foods. So, any recipes and help would help alot. Thank you.

  174. Kathleen says:

I’m a nutritionist helping my uncle who is suffering from metastatic prostate cancer… I’m supporting him as he slowly transitions from the standard american diet to a plant-based one. I’d love to receive this DVD so I can give it to him.

  175. I’ve been eating plant strong for 6 weeks now. I love my Fast Food video. I would like to have the burgers and fries video to expand my vegan repertoire.

  176. Odaisy says:

I would love a copy to investigate further. I’ve been on the no oil, lowfat plant dense diet since the end of June 2012, yet the scale refuses to go down. Very frustrating because I want to be one of the success stories.

  177. I am rather new to the E2 diet (almost 2 months) and I love it. I am so excited to learn as much as I can to pass along to my family. Thank for the opporutnity and the great new outlook on life. I really appreciate it.

  178. cp says:

I alwyas enjoy trying new recipes that fit the whole foods, low fat, plant based diet. I know this cookbook will get lots of use!

  179. Tonya Kubo says:

Plant-based burger substitutes scare me because they are so often laden with soy (allergic). I’d love to find a few good recipes that my family enjoys to satisfy that craving without feeling like the only options are to eat meat or do without. I’d love to win the “Burgers & Fries” DVD so I could experiment at home, and enroll my family in the fun of plant-based cooking.

  180. April Hocut says:

I would love to win the DVD.I am just learning to eat plant strong.i eat only store bought vegan burgers but I’m not sure what is in them.

  181. My husband and I had twin girls last May. I’m in my 40′s and he’s in his 60′s. We want to stay healthy so we can watch the girls grow up and have families of their own. It’s been a blessing.

  182. I would love to have more fun options, when everyone else is eating meaty burgers. Making my own burgers seems more appealing than buying them.

  183. Natalie says:

My family an I have switched to a whole foods plant based diet on January 7th. I was motivated because I wanted to see if this way of eating would help me with my chronic pain from my autoimmune condition that I’ve been suffering with since 2008 and not getting any answers from doctors. My husband wanted to see if it would help his high cholesterol and blood pressure. Within 3 weeks, 95% of my pain was gone. The last blood pressure reading my husband had was normal. We are excited to get blood work done at our annual check ups. Anyways, I’d love this book because my favorite food before the switch was a cheeseburger and that’s the only thing I miss. If I could find some great alternatives, that would be perfect.

  184. Good recipes for burger and fries that are healthy are hard to find! I have been following your blogs and facebook listings for awhile. If I am the recipient of the DVD, I would like to show it at the Parent/Teacher meeting at our elementary school. Please pick me!

  185. Dawn says:

After the death of my children’s father to a sudden heart attack, I wanted to make sure that I did everything in my power to make sure our children lived a long and healthy life. Our journey has just began but if I can teach my 6 and 4 year old these things now then the sky’s the limit!!!

  186. CJ says:

Oh I’d love a copy of that DVD! I have made the one recipe of your burgers that was shared on FB – FABULOUS! I’d like more variations and some entertainment too by watching you on the video. :)

  187. DJ says:

The one thing I miss after going plant strong are burgers and fries. I’d like to win Jeff’s DVD because I could make healthy, plant strong burgers.

  188. Vanessa Gray says:

We have just started to eat Vegetarian and working our way into vegan, I would love this DVD to help us on our journey!

  189. Steph says:

I would love a copy because burgers and fries are one of my favorite foods and ones that used to get me in trouble before I discovered the plant-based way of eating. Growing up, I ate at many fast food establishments as often as my parents would let me. It was fast, easy, and cheap. Now I know how it was effecting me and why I was always heavy, even when I was somewhat active. Now I love plant-strong burgers and fries, but would love to learn more recipes than the few I have tried! I also think that I could help encourage others to eat this way if I made foods that were so common for people to love, but that they also think had to be unhealthy. Give me healthy burgers and fries and I am one happy camper!

  190. Veggiegirl says:

I’ve been learning from since I first ran across an article by him 8 years ago. Since then I’ve read everything by him I can get my hands on and I never tire of learning more. I’d love to have the dvd to teach my children how to eat healthy and yummy burgers and fries this summer.

  191. Rob says:

With summer coming up, grilling season is soon to start. It can be tough to create a great plant based burger, so Jeff’s DVD would be an awesome reference.

  192. Sarah smith says:

I’m 29 and was raisd by a meat eater and a vegitarian that meant no compromise so we ended up eating fast food every night. A “home cooked” meal was toast or cereal or plain speghetti. Everyone in my family has died too early of some form of heart disease or cancer. Now a stay at home mom of two I work hard at feeding them a whole foods organic plant based diet on a military family income. We eat 99% of our meals at home which means I live in the kitchen! I would love to have a quick reference to explore more recipes and to share with my family who is now becoming more interested in our way of life. My mom and I just ran our 1st 5K and I want to continue to encourage her on this path to great health!

  193. Yumiko Kawai says:

My boyfriend & I have been on a journey to making healthier life choices. Of course that includes what we nourish our bodies with. We look forward to learning new ways to incorporate that in our lives:)

  194. Christine says:

I have had some initial weight loss with switching to a plant-based diet, but am needing some additional Haley in continuing to lose this excess weight. My family is also hoping for some new recipes, especially with the “grilling season” approaching.

  195. PammiePoo says:

I am a new vegan, trying to be healthy. My mom and sister died at an early age from diabetes, heart disease, and kidney failure. I need all the help I can get!

  196. April says:

  197. Sheree Britt says:

I so love Jeff! I want all of his things to help my omni hubby get on track!!

The Veggie Burgers I purchase are either frozen hockey pucks or fresh and loaded with sodium.
I need to learn how to make healthy burgers!

    I would love a copy!

  202. Kelsey says:

I want to rock at BBQ’s this summer!

  203. Linda says:

Hello Jeff, would love a copy of your DVD. I have always exercised throughout my life, but never really thought about what I was putting into my body. As of January I have stopped drinking soda, not a one, and I also which to a new dr. To one who really advocates plant strong diet and no preservatives. Very hard to do but I am committed! I am a 56 yr. old woman ready to make this healthy eating change.
    Thanks,
    Linda

  204. Hil says:

I have been vegetarian for many years and vegan for about six months but I would really like to become plant strong. Just struggling with the motivation and inspiration.

  205. Mar says:

My husband & I have been vegans for about 8 years. But our grandchildren are still carnivores. With the “Burger & Fries” DVD it would show them foods they like in a healthy way. More influence thru the media than w/ grandma!

  206. Valerie Lord says:

I’d love this, because we need all the help we can get in converting to a plant-strong diet.

  207. Elsa says:

Hello, I would like to receive a copy because I have always had trouble loosing weight to be healthy and until I adopted a plant based diet I was able to loose 35 pounds in 5 months. My boyfriend right now is having some health issues and I want him to slowly begin this lifestyle too.

  208. Susan says:

Five years vegan and still a bad cook. Thank goodness for steamed veggies! My husband would be thrilled if I could learn to make burgers and fries!

  209. I’m just starting my plant based journey and it’s rough. I would love this book to help me with recipes that my husband will enjoy. He’s not really on board right now. He has a severe mitral valve prolapse and is in goo health otherwise. He says everything in moderation and we’ll be fine. I’m going to convert him yet.

  210. Beth Crouse says:

I would love a copy because I know this way of eating is so good for you, and we love veggie burgers at our house. It’s a good way to eat like everyone else, except a healthier version.

  211. S. L. says:

Thanks for the great info, Jeff! I have never liked to cook, so now that my husband and I are eating plant-based after all these years, I’m at a loss. I would love to win a copy of your DVD and make quick, healthy meals!

  212. Caroline Jones says:

I have a vegan teenager who doesn’t always eat in the most nutritious way. What better way to improve her diet than Jeff’s burgers and fries!

  213. Stu Berkowitz says:

Jeff has inspired me and my sweetie, (now vegan) professional chef Shana Brannon, to be plant strong. Besides, Jeff’s my boychik (Yiddish for *homie”, sort of) from New York! ;-)

  214. Mary Arnquist says:

I bought a copy a year ago but gave it to my daughter-in-law before I watched it myself. I really want my own copy! The last veggie burgers I bought were a mushy, bad tasting waste of money.

  215. Tania Maxwell Clements says:

My husband, Emory, and I just celebrated our one year very low fat vegan anniversary this past weekend. We have, shockingly, yet to try Jeff’s burgers. I’m excited that there are so many choices of delicious plant based foods out there and we are thrilled to see how many more discoveries there are around every corner. Thank you to you all for opening our eyes to a “whole” new way of eating. Can’t wait to try these burgers!!

  216. Practically every day, my 17 year old tells me that he had his dairy and meat fix at school (school lunches). He’s slowly adapting to our plant-strong diet at home. I’d love a copy of the cookbook, and promise that it will be well-used (notes written in it, post-its flapping out, probably some food stains from being too close to the cutting board and stove).

  217. Lori P says:

I am a 41 year old woman with (total) cholesterol levels over 250 for the last 10+ years, and high LDL levels. I have tried things in the past to get it down, but it seems to stay around that mark probably due to my diet and extreme family history of heart disease. My father had his first heart attack at age 42 and has had 2 additional heart attacks and a sextuple bypass (and that’s just my father, I could go on and on). I have watched Forks Over Knives and was very convicted to change to a plant based diet but it only lasted for about 3 weeks. It is very hard with a young family to please everyone with menu choices and a plant based diet is not something my entire family is on board with. I would love to have a copy of this DVD as it seems like this is about as close to what my kids would call “normal food” as you can get with plant based. Thank you for the chance to win.

  218. Kaste says:

    Clueless. This would be INSPIRING!

  219. Fran Rush says:

I’ve been totally plant-strong for 3 1/2 years, but my husband isn’t. He HAS, however, been experimenting with making his own burgers using the Engine 2 recipe mixed in with another one or two. It would be great to have more ideas about how he can make his own, healthy (and low sodium) burgers.

  220. Lori Bedwell says:

I would love to win the video because I am surrounded by meat eaters, and I think they would watch a movie since they have many questions, but tell me they could never give up meat. Meanwhile, they take medication for different ailments and seem to always be unhealthy. I became vegan about a year ago, and have not been sick since! I think the video would be a great tool to use in education my friends.

  221. I would love a copy of the new book. I have one teen age son left at home and it is a fight to get him to eat healthy. I try to make his old “favs” and this would go such a long way to helping me win this fight.

  222. Barb says:

This would help my single, young adult son who lives in another state to prepare healthy meals. He is experiencing minor health issues that will only increase unless he learns to make healthy choices, and Jeff Novick makes it so simple!

  223. Lori says:

It would be great to have recipes for healthy burgers and fries.

  224. Molly Di Fede says:

Jeff, first thank you for the AMAZING work you do on behalf of educating us all! <3 I'd love to have a copy of the video to get away from super complicated veggie burger recipes or ones from the store that can have much too much processing to it! :-)

  225. Michael says:

I would love the DVD so that I can share the message of healthy, plant-based eating with friends and family, in addition to adding more healthy meal options to my own menu. Thanks so much for all that you do.

  226. Veggie V! says:

I’ve been following Jeff for a while, but I’ve not been able to purchase any of his products. I’d love to check out Burgers and Fries!

  227. Lynne says:

On a very limited income and would love to win a copy. After an Engine 2 challenge 3 yr ago at WF we lost weight, my cholesterol dropped 100 pts and my partner is off insulin.

  228. Melody says:

This DVD would be a great way for me to see Jeff Novick in action.
While I have enjoyed and benefited from Novick’s willingness to make his
recipes freely and publicly available, I think I would gain a great
deal from being able to see him actually preparing them. Thank you for
    the opportunity.

  229. Bob says:

Healthy plant-based burgers are often very difficult to come by, and
Jeff Novick has been kind enough to give us some very healthy options.
This DVD would help me better incorporate Jeff’s recipes into my diet
and also share them with those I care about. Thank you for the chance
    to do so.

  230. Barb says:

I am so grateful for your recipes and information to help with good nutritious plant based meals that my husband and I truly enjoy. Our son and his wife have also been following this wonderful way to eat. Keep up the good work.

  231. nrslinda says:

As a skinny diabetic, I chose to become vegan in an attempt to improve my A1c and lipid profile. Happy to report, it worked much to the surprise of my endocrinologist. Send me that DVD and I’ll be sure to pass it on.

  232. Dede says:

After my husband had a quadruple bypass, his doctor recommended he follow Dr. Esselstyn’s plant based wellness plan. We have been eating plant strong for 1 1/2 years. The new FOK cookbook is a great supplement to my growing recipe index. I would love to add a new DVD.

  233. Betty McEnaney says:

Great article, Jeff. Thanks for clear explanation…. It all makes perfect sense. I have found that you can be vegan and still manage to put on weight. This explains why it can happen.

  234. Deana says:

I would love to win a copy of Burgers & Fries so that I can learn more plant strong meals that my family, especially my picky toddler, will eat & enjoy. It’d also be great to have yummy veggie burgers to bring to upcoming cookouts.. Summer’s around the corner :)

  235. Cliff Mac says:

I recently attended a plant based diet seminar, and during learned about Engine 2 Diet. After coming home, and doing a little research online, I took the plunge. It took a couple of weeks to find meal replacements, but I’m glad to say that I’m plant strong. I’m constantly searching for tasty recipes to incorporate into my diet, and burgers and fries are among my favorite meals to eat. Most of the burgers that I’ve made lack the flavor and consistency of store bought veggie burgers, however those are often high in fat and salt. I’ll stick to my whole food plant strong recipe search for now for the perfect burger. I’ve got a copy of this DVD ordered from the local library and I hope to find some delicious treats in it. On a side note, after 6 weeks on the plant strong diet, I am off of my blood pressure medications that I’ve been taking for 15 years. My blood pressure is better now off of the meds than it ever was on them. Thank you for the work you are doing.

  236. after many tests, the doctors said the awful gut pain, nausea, stomach pain and diarrhea were more symptoms of ibs and they could not help me. so i learned about plant-based eating and went vegan in the hope that i could help myself. it’s been 3 weeks and i’m already starting to feel better! would love a copy of the dvd so i can learn more.

  237. Nova Van Scyoc says:

I turned 50 in January wanted to take better care of my self. My Husband is lactose intolerant and is always suffering from dairy being in foods. We watched DVD to help keep us inspired. We have seen “Engine 2 Kitchen Rescue” Fat, Sick and almost Dead, Forks over knives, These DVD’S help inspire us to take better care of ourselves and eat right. My husband has lost 31lbs and I have lost 10lbs. We also took the 28 day challenge. It was awesome. My husband does all the cooking now.

  238. I just watched FOK last night. I stayed up extra late with my mind FILLED with so many thoughts. I’d been contemplating the Paleo lifestyle, but after watching FOK, I definitely will not be going that route. My dh & I are both overweight & we have 4 young daughters. I really want to look into a plant-based, whole food diet. I enjoy cooking for my family & would love to win “Burgers & Fries” to start cooking good meals for my family & begin to change our future!

  239. madalyn says:

I could leave a comment that’s loaded with lies, but truth is I must have Jeff’s “Burger and Fries”!
My seven month journey has brought me this far. I’m forty pounds slimmer and reaching for stars. I’m plant strong and happy and feeling so great. It’s now in the kitchen, where my man and I “date”. A new meeting place, as we dice, slice and roast. We’re so much in love, and I’m sorry to boast! :)
I have five months to go til my dream will come true, and I’d sure be excited with “hope” mailed from you!
We pack all our lunches and sure love to cook, Please make my day, and send me this book!

    • madalyn says:

Change to: If you help me with this, I will jump up with GLEE… if I find in my mailbox, this GREAT DVD!

  240. martha says:

I’ve heard so much about this DVD. I’d love to make the fries! :)

  241. Nancy says:

I would love I copy because everything Jeff does is great!

  242. Denise says:

I need a copy to share with family and friends…because I’m too protective of MY copy! :-)

  243. Cherie Oden says:

I would LOVE to get this DVD. I moved from So Cal to West Texas about 6 months ago. To say that I am having trouble with a plant-based diet here would be putting it mildly. I live with my sister and am trying desperately to get her to eat healthier. This would be a tremendous help. ;)

  244. Natalie says:

Thanks Jeff for the calorie density advice. I would like a copy of your dvd burgers and fries to share with a family member who recently had a heart attack and then also diagnosed with diabetes. This person and family are not readers like I am, so a dvd for them would be a great help for teaching some alternative healthy eating as they begin to eat differently….. And, I know I’ll enjoy watching it before sending it on.

  245. Sarah N says:

I just found out I have some heart problems, clogs, etc. I need to lose about 90 lbs. I would love to see this DVD.

  246. Lynn in MD says:

My husband has heart disease so we are working to become more plant strong!

  247. I love this… I so need to get back to a plant based diet, and fight heart and diabetes issues.

  248. Thor Wiegman says:

Not only have I learned and improved my life with the materials shared with me so far, I have shared those things with others. Not just shared but shared with results. Several lives have been changed because I have been a conduit for this information. That and I have led by example. So anything you might pass on to me will benefit far more than just me.

  249. Derrek Hooyman says:

I’d love to demonstrate for my family and others healthy eating. They think I am obsessed and would really enjoy showing them the benefits and show great they feel. I am in college and also am looking to eat healthy and not spend a lot.

  250. Hey Jeff, I love all of you DVDs, especially the one on Calorie Density. However, I do not have the Burgers and Fries and would love to add it to my collection. Cheers!

  251. T. Brown says:

I started the Engine2 28-day challenge 1 1/2 years ago, and hadn’t looked back … until recently. I am a mother of 2 young boys and I am back in school. I’ve been so busy lately and swamped with school work. Due to lack of time, I’ve started eating eggs and cheese and I just cant seem to kick it. I really want to start new and I need some help. Hopefully with the DVD, I can get a jump start :).

  252. Becky Medley says:

What a wonderful resource this would be on my plant strong journey!!

  253. Jennifer says:

We are in need of a change for my son. Trying to avoid major surgery that will alter his body forever. We need all the resources we can get our hands on.

  254. Rita says:

I love the fact that Jeff is so down unearth and has great, simple, easy to follow advice and recipes. Who has time for complicated??

  255. Tessa says:

I stopped eating meat a year ago.
My husband is a cheeseburger-with-fried-onions-bacon-and-blue-cheese kind of guy. He and his friends have burger cook-offs. He told me yesterday that he can’t figure out why he’s not losing weight….HELP!!!

  256. Noemi Aylesworth says:

My husband and I have been following Jeff Novick for 5 years. We have enjoyed his other dvds and have shared his name with many friends. Thank you to Jeff, Rip and the many others helping people to a healthier life through food!

  257. Val says:

I’ve lost 14 pounds since the immersion. I need new food ideas.

  259. Holly Gruver says:

I live in a cul-de-sac full of plant strong families. I would love to be able to prepare these amazing burgers and fries for the kids at one of monthly get togethers! This would be a win-win for everyone!

  260. Rick says:

  261. Meg says:

I would love a copy of “Burgers and Fries” because I love trying out new recipes that make me healthier and happier and I’m pretty sure there are some happy-making recipes in this book.

  262. Jody says:

I really really really want this book! My hubby (even though he is mostly plant based with me) still LOVES his burgers and fries. This will help me get him on the right track and get the BP down. Fingers crossed!

  263. I’m 61 and 30+ pounds over weight!! I have tried so many things that were too hard or seem too complicated or were limited. I’ve had a weight problem all my adult life but managed to control it until 10 years ago. I’m at a place in my life that I must do something to change my habits and help myself. I am so tired of what I have become :( I am open minded and am willing to try.

  264. My husband just joined me on the plant strong journey. I need easy yummy ideas for meals that will keep him happy and committed to staying plant strong. He is overweight and has high cholesterol

  265. Beth says:

Can’t have too many plantstrong recipes.

  266. I want to show more people you can eat healthy, delicious, and vegan food. I’m planning on inviting friends over to share this good food with them.

  267. I am so interested in this DVD! I first ran across it while doing the 28 day challenge in February. I have been saving my money but too many priority expenses right now. :(

  268. Laura says:

I love Jeff Novick- I wish I could find a dietician in my area of the country as forward thinking as he is- and as FUNNY! I’ve been a vegan for a year and never felt better. I’m always looking for more resources to give friends to help them make the decision to adopt a plant- based lifestyle.

  272. Kelen Evans says:

I am on a new path in life. I am a person with type2 diabetes. I have adopted a vegan lifestyle at least for 28 days. I would love to view any material that is out there that will assist me in my quest to rid myself of this disease and the meds that go along with it.

  273. Pat says:

I have several health issues which have improved a lot as a result of going vegetarian for the last year. Now after more research and learning I realize I need to go the whole mile and take it to vegan. ‘Trying’to be as ‘vegan as possible’ just doesn’t cut it – there’s always going to be an excuse for cheese, or butter or oil or eggs, it seems! I need more vegan recipe ideas at my fingertips so I have an immediate healthy response for those thoughts of ‘just this once won’t hurt’.

  274. Doing my best to get my husband on the plant strong way of eating and the thing he misses most is burger and fries! Thanks for all you do!

  275. CJ says:

…because I could use some extra help!

  276. Mare says:

Hi! I would really like to learn more from Jeff novicks books. About six doctors and a year and a half later, I was diagnosed with a number of food allergies, gluten intolerant, and fibromyalgia. I’m trying to learn and research foods that will help assist in healing and avoid certain foods that cause inflammation. So this would be a great starting point, seeing that a lot doctors (unless holistic) don’t know how to guide a patient using food to heal and get a number of vitamins/minerals along with other benefits.

  277. Caryn says:

I would love a chance to win this book. I already have the Engine 2 Diet Book, Happy Herbivore, and Forks Over Knives. I use all of them a lot. My family and friends love all the recipes as well. I always learn a lot from reading Jeff Novick’s contributions to the Engine 2 Facebook page. I know his book would be wonderful.

  278. Lynn says:

What a great pairing!!! E2 and Jeff!!

  279. Maryanne says:

All of Jeff’s recipes are excellent, His burgers will give me more
options to introduce family and friends to delicious, plant-based
eating. I would love a DVD! Thanks, Engine 2!

  280. Happy Dodson says:

  287. steve g says:

Looks interesting, thanks for the efforts

  288. Margaret says:

I’d like the DVD because I’ve been trying to be plant strong since last year but haven’t been able to convert all the way because I need more options that I’m able to make quickly, easily, and cheaply. Getting this CD would definitely help! I work full time and go to school so I really don’t have much time.

  289. Doug says:

Burgers were one of my favorite foods in my less healthy days, and it is
great to see that Jeff has developed a health-promoting option for us.
    Thanks for the DVD giveaway!

  290. Began following a plant strong diet just over a year ago and it has changed my life!!! I “NEVER” thought I would be able to do it and love it so much. I am slowly converting my family too! They love trying all the new dishes I come up with. Always love finding new ways to keep me going strong and healthy! :)

  291. Mary says:

Being plant-based at a BBQ can be challenging, especially when even the
plant-based options are not healthy. Jeff’s recipes seem to solve that
problem, and I would love a DVD to help me learn how to better use them
    in my next event.

  292. Dari says:

I would love an easy cookbook for burgers. Sounds like a great place to continue healthy eating.

  293. JillB says:

My dad died of esophageal cancer last January. During his illness, I read many books that advocated a plant strong diet to defeat cancer, diabetes, heart disease and obesity. After watching what my dad went through, I want to avoid cancer at all costs. Since January 2012, my kids and I have lived a vegan lifestyle and feel great!

  294. Deidre says:

I would love a copy of “Burgers and Fries” because I love trying out new recipes that make me healthier and happier and I’m pretty sure there are some delicious recipes in this book.

  295. Sdr Steven says:

Kind of a newby here! Just finished my first 28 days, and trying to learn as much as I can. Would like to encourage my family to join with me, but feel limited with my knowledge! I can find a lot of information out there, but soooo much information! Would like to find the best resources and learn from those! Thanks for your help and recipes!!

  296. Esther says:

Not only am I in the process of transforming my diet to the plant strong concept but also have an opportunity to share what I have learned with community groups. Since trying Jeff’s basic bean burger recipe posted on face book, I have shared it as a sample with friends and community groups. It has been amazingly well received and I would love to expand on this with more burger and fry recipes!

  297. beth says:

Finding it challenging to maintain this lifestyle. The book would be a welcome addition to help stay on track.

  298. Tricia Griffith says:

I am on my weight loss journey, which has included learning more about going meatless. Currently I have lost over 100lbs, still needing to lose about 50 m ore. My husband has lost over 100lbs as well. My son is coming along, sometimes kicking and screaming, hah….so I would love to make burgers and fries the healthy way for my guys.

  299. I am a heart patient following Dr Esselstyne and I would love a copy because I’ve never had a bean burger. I’m tired of eating what I’m eating and would love to try Jeff’s recipes! I need a boost!

  300. Cindy C says:

I would love a copy because I have never had a veggie or bean burger before and being a former meat eater I somewhat miss having a burger! I just don’t know where to begin making one. Summer is coming and we have family cook outs and it would be nice to have something similar to what everyone else is having

  301. Debbie says:

Trying to eat more healthy, very much like a better version of our favoriate meal
my husband doesn’t think you can have a meal without meat.

  302. Lynnette says:

I already have the DVD and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!! If you don’t win it, consider purchasing it.

Hubby & I took Jeff’s burgers to an employee BBQ party at the ski area where he teaches so we could have something to eat. (BBQ was brats, burgers, chicken). A couple of the maintenance guys saw our burgers on the grill and thought they looked great. We had extras so they tossed those on for them. They really liked the burgers. The BBQ guru just shook his head in dismay, he is a marinating, BBQ, meat loving guy.
The videos are great to watch. I keep the .pdf recipe summary readily available for reference.

  303. Would love to win a copy! Went plant strong over a year ago and we are always “hungry” for more information! -thanks :)

  304. Tracy Dumont says:

We’re doing a lot better at our house since we went mostly plant strong. I say mostly because we’re still dealing with some crazy addiction issues (yup, I read the pleasure trap). But I really want to live a truely plant strong way. I saw Jeff at an imersion at the Esselstyn farm last August. I have a total crush on the guy. I love his style and I find him to be inspiring. I feel that this DVD will help reinforce a few things for us. And, I’m pretty certain my 2.5 y o son will love the DVD (he likes to help cook!). I haven’t attempted making my own plant burgers yet, and I would love to learn from the MASTER!

  305. Linn says:

I need more quick go-to meals that my meat-loving husband and my 3 year old will both eat!

  306. Judy says:

Yesterday was my one year anniversary of being plant strong! I’ve lost 30 pounds (adding to a previously lost 80) and will never look back. I’ve never felt better! And at this point am about 40 pounds away from goal! I’d love one of Jeff’s DVD’s to broaden my cooking – especially in areas that will further entice my husband. He had gastric bypass 5 years ago because of escalating health issues, but has been slowly gaining back weight. He isn’t interested in going plant strong (yet) – happily calls himself a carnivore, and loves his meat. So I try to have different dishes available in the refrigerator to wean him to healthier eating, and it is making a difference. The other day he said loves the lentil loaf I make better than regular meat loaf! I think having healthy “burger and fry” meals will continue teaching him the health, well-being, and FLAVOR found in plant strong foods!

  307. Sherry Blythe says:

We are a vegan family of three and my 7 year old is an amazing vegan ambassador! My husband and I both need to lose weight in order to be better examples ourselves as well as continuing to improve our health. I would love to add this book to our growing arsenal of information!

  308. Sharon says:

I would love a copy b/c my family & I are trying to eat healthier. I have Candida issues, so I’m more motivated & they are enjoying my healthy cooking. I had a veggie burger at Veggie Fest & loved it! I’d love to make those healthy burgers & fries for my family! My husband especially needs it as he doesn’t exercise & gets sick more than I do. I’m worried about him.

  309. Sharon says:

I’m also delighted to see my kids eating more raw, making smoothies & juicing & buying organic & non-GMO! Especially my pregnant daughter!

  310. Cynthia says:

    I could use some inspiration!

  311. APATX0 says:

Plant strong for 3 years now! My husband has been able to get off his cholesterol medication and is now at an acceptable level. I’m a big fan of Jeff’s recipes and would like to have more!!

  312. Pam Wertz says:

I would LOVE a copy and promise to spread the good word.

  313. Kim T says:

I’m challeged with decreasing calorie density foods during the winter months. I also miss the texture of meat, but don’t want to get in the habit of eating a lot of the meatless offerings from the frozen food section. My lab values are ALL excellent. Thanks for all your help!!!

  314. Your sense of humor and recipes inspires our good sense eating…Thank you.

  315. I’d love to have a copy! I’m trying to get my wife to make the switch but we need something fast she can make to take to work for lunch. I’m no uber cook so I’d love the help. We both need to lose some weight and bring our cholesterol and BP down. I’m already plant strong, just need to get her on board :)

  316. Nancy Purdy says:

Since going plant strong, I’ve lost 33 pounds since the end of July. My joints have stopped hurting. My hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder used to ache after chopping or stirring. I have energy to keep going all day. I took a trip to South Africa and my body didn’t ache after the 42 hours of travel. In the past couple of years I have felt very beat up after the trip, but not this time.

  317. Mike Little says:

I am trying to eat healthier. It’s not always easy but every bit helps

  318. Tina says:

I would love to win the DVD because I need a lot of HELP cooking plant based. there is still too much junk in my diet. Please help me!

  319. Marsha says:

Burgers and fries are favorites, and with our determination to reverse heart disease, the more recipes we can get the better. Jeff’s recipes are always quick, easy and delicious.

  320. Gigi says:

I’m surrounded by Crossfitters and Paleo-ers. I’ve been vegetarian for 14 years and have tried to raise my 5 year old son as “veggie” as possible. My husband is on the fence about which direction to go and we could use all the info possible to sway these carnivores over to the Veg side :)

  321. Misty Thompson says:

This is such a blessing! I would adore a copy because I balance my WFPB intake with hubby omni habits and our two boys are in the middle. This would be lovely to show them there are SO many yummies out there

  322. New Mexico Troyer says:

I must have this to gift to my husband who went plant based, oil free 2+ months ago to reduce his cholesterol levels and more. (i joined him in this new way of life).
The interesting part of his story is that he has been an award winning, competition barbequer for the past 5- years. All of our friends and his BBQ buddies know him as ” that” guy! We love educating our house guests and feeding them from our E2 recipes. Several have left our home and begun the same plant based journey. We even show them the movies Forks Over Knives and E2 Kitchen Rescue while feeding them yummy and healthy desserts in the evening. Your DVD will help add to our arsenal and keep us motivated and educated. How fun to watch the people we love convert to a healthier lifestyle!! Oh, and they don’t seem
to mind that they were not served BBQ meat when they leave our home. LOL

  323. Been on my plant based diet for 4 months and lost 40 pounds within 2 months. My dear husband, have a little trouble with meals i make which i get from engine 2, fat free vegan, happy herbivore and etc. One thing he loves is my burgers, so i DESERVE this book

  324. Burgers and fries were my favorite meal before going plant strong. so to have this book wuld be awesome because i could still eat them.

  325. Nancy Rogers says:

I have been trending toward a plant based, whole foods diet since January. I have recently started following Jeff’s newsletters. I watched a clip from one of his videos and this seems like it would be perfect for me and my family with our hectic schedules and the fact that I don’t like to spend a lot of time cooking!

  326. Gayle says:

My husband and I started plant based eating a year ago. My 16 yr old daughter resized she was primarily plant based and made the final transition 2 months ago. We love it but my teenage sons are more resistant to the complete change-over. Maybe this DVD will help with those last few roadblocks they have put up….including a good burger.

  327. happyJQ says:

“Burgers and Fries” could be a real life changer for our entire family. Looking forward to healthy, positive changes!

  328. Jennifer Hauge says:

I’m still buying packaged veggie burgers yet have been eating plant strong for 2+ years! What’s wrong with me?!? Well, I don’t have Jeff Novick’s Burgers & Fries DVD yet. While Dr. Praeger’s California Veggie Burgers from Trader Joe’s get us by in a pinch, I just know there’s a whole new world out there of easy, delicious, and nutritious homemade veggie patties that I’d love to learn to make. Pick me!

  329. I heard Jeff’s presentation at the HealthyYouNetwork symposium. I often use his 5-ingredient base recipe for my office lunch. Love it!

  330. Bev says:

As I age I’m seeing more & more family & friends battling illness. Since I am single and do not want to be a burden on anyone and I love my independent lifestyle, I decided it was time to take control of my health. I started going to Whole Foods demo kitchen about a year ago, they were doing the Engine 2 diet for that month (meet-up once a week), as I learned about plant strong and changed my diet, I felt healthier & started trail walking too. I would like the book because I want to continue educating myself, and my family & friends too! Thanks for considering my request.

  331. Erika says:

I’d love to see this. We’re slowly converting our family to a more natural diet with very little to no meats.

  332. Because Jeff and friends have changed my life and I want to pass it on!

  333. Judy says:

My family loves Jeff’s bean burgers. The ones with mashed beans, oatmeal, salsa and spices. I’d love a copy of Jeff’s burgers and fries DVD to create more of his fabulous burgers for my 4 kids (ages 16, 14, 11 & 8) to enjoy!

  334. Elle says:

Hey, I need a copy to help me cure my RA of 14 years. Thanks!

  335. Nancy says:

I would love a copy so I can plan meals for my son when he’s a little older. I need to find a healthy substitute for him so he won’t miss what his friend have. I’m still a novice in the kitchen so any instruction can definitely help!

  336. Shari says:

I would LOVE a copy of this book! I work night shift and on my way into work there is a McDonalds. I have been addicted to BAD McDonalds for too long! I WANT to change to badly! Any help would be wonderful! I’m getting close to 40 and heart disease, bad cholesterol, etc run in my family. Would love help to get healthy and stay healthy!

  337. Priscilla says:

Well, my grandchildren eat so badly and I would love to get them on a better track. I think this book would be a help in giving them something they would like without it being too foreign to them!

  338. steve howeth says:

My wife and I have been on the engine2 diet fathfully since jan.1 this year. We love our new way of eating and would enjoy this to continue our new journey.

  339. Twila says:

I would love to have a copy of this DVD. After being diagnosed with fatal liver cancer and given only 2 weeks to 2 months to live (a year and a half ago) I have changed my diet and started a health small group that meets monthly. As part of the meeting we share healthy foods and I usually cook a couple items. I would love to cook for the group from this DVD. I did the Engine 2 Challenge with the North Raleigh Whole Foods Market. What a wonderful experience!

  340. plainoldsarah says:

I’ve been hearing all about his great videos – would love to see them for myself. See if I can improve on my skills

  341. 55walker says:

Jeff is the go to guy for nutrition information.

  342. Cherie says:

How do you makesure you are getting the protein.i have been on this a month and have lost some. I have been sick withflu like symptoms. I feel yukky. The doctor says I am notgetting enough protein. I need to go eat meat. I am sorryeverytime I lookat meat I see animals faces.vb it makes me sick. I know it is right because my dad had rheumatoid arthritisand started eating this way and was able to walk in three months.

    • CB says:

Are you getting enough calories? You might have to eat more whole foods. Shouldn’t the protein content of plants be adequate? The protein in plant food is about the same as human breast milk. The typical Western diet has too much protein. What about B12 supplements? Unless you are eating plants pulled out of the soil, you are not getting B12, which affects energy level. Animals are able to make B12 from plants, but we can’t.

  343. Riva says:

Outstanding article. Thank you for bringing Jeff to the masses!

  344. Jill Conyers says:

I love veggie burgers! They were (and are) my number one meal choice when I changed to an all plant based diet one year ago last month. I would love to win Burgers & Fries!

  345. Susan says:

It’s been 9 months of a TOTAL life change for this middle aged grandma and I am telling you I have never felt (or honestly looked) better! 47 pounds less of me !!
This journey following the plant based lifestyle has been neither hard nor sacrificial! I did notice the caloric ups and downs Jeff mentions but the trick is not to judge yourself or get too discouraged as the body is WISE and always adjusting if you just follow the path! Now my husband, best friend and daughter have all come on board. I love this life and will be on this FOREVER! Love the new column!!! Thank you!

  346. Wow, I needed that information and plan to put into good use. Thank you so much for helping your fellow human beings have the health we were meant to have!!

  347. Kelly says:

I am just starting out my journey to better health and living Plant Strong, and i know that Burgers and Fries would be a valuable asset for me as i go from being told i have only a few years to live at best unless i have weight loss surgery to a healthier, better me without the drugs or surgical options. also,i believe by seeing the changes it helps me make in my own life, it will help to inspire my family, who needs it as badly as i do, to follow in my steps.

  348. Rich Sandler says:

So helpful! I am struggling with losing the last ten pounds to get me back to my weight at age 20!

  349. Martelle says:

For 40 years I’ve been a diabetic on 5 to 6 shots a day. At the age of 51, I had congestive heart failure requiring a 6 way bypass. You think I would have learned then. No, it took to the age of 72 before I wised up

For the last few months I’ve been folling a plant food diet and feel wonderful. I was on two different insulins with 5 to 6 shots a day. Only on one type now with 2 shots per day. Soon I hope to be on none. I haven’t felt this good since in my 20′s. Thanks to everyone for posting all the information needed to continue down this path

  350. Kathy says:

Thank you, I have been plant based for almost a year now (at least 90%). I have lost weight but plateaued. So thank you for this update.

  351. He always brings a smile to my face, to my taste buds and to my health! :D

  352. I am married to a meat and potatoes man. I have been successful in getting him to eat and love a vegan chili if I blend the vegetables. I would love to have more recipes to try and adopt into our diet.

  353. Kathy says:

My husband and I are new (a few weeks) to this way of eating, but we have enjoyed trying new recipes and we are excited about learning more about how to cook this way. Particularly, we would like to learn enough to be comfortable enough to share with family who is not quite ready yet to take the plunge.

  354. Fran says:

After watching Forks over Knives. I started a Plant strong diet two months ago. I would love to have some new recipes .

  355. Ami L Lloyd says:

I would love your DVD and I can’t wait to hear more about you!

  356. kathiee1 says:

Just getting into plant based foods and so far I’m very pleased. I was afraid it would be hard, but I don’t miss the meat and other items at all.

  357. Craig says:

Over a year ago I found it impossible to ignore all my family members who had read Engine 2 and were changing their lives. I followed suit and for 5 months happily lived an ideal plant strong diet. However, I faltered during work layoff, subsequent loss of house and marriage “using” my hard times as excuse to slip… I have begun the weaning process and “Burgers & Fries” is exactly the direction I am headed. Being alone in this journey, I welcome this kind of support.

  358. Cindy Beilfuss says:

Since watching FoK first of the year, my 11 year old and I started our vegan journey or I should say our whole foods plant based journey. Because of the change in our diet he no longer invites friends over to play or spend the night because our food does not have meat in it like his friends foods. I would like this book so I can learn to cook awesome veggie burgers so my son will not be embarrassed when kids see our food. In addition this will always help out a single parent and only parent’s income. Thanks for all you do!!

  359. We started a plant strong diet 16 months ago using the Esselstyn’s books for advice on the”how”. We have had great success in health areas- my husband is using 1/5 the amount of insulin, I’m off glucosamine for arthritis. We have both lost some weight but have leveled off. I would love a copy of Jeff Novak’s book “Burgers and Fries” to help us continue on our journey. Thank you!

  360. Morenna says:

I love a tasty veggie burger and would welcome some new recipe ideas.

  361. Therese says:

I love Forks Over Knives! It was my intro into the world of healthy eating! I have shared my FoK DVD with my children, friends, and most recently my church pastor who recently had a stint implant. I have come to know Dr. Novick’s work and others since first seeing FoK. My Aunt is 88yrs young and takes no medication! However, since a fall this past December she is getting a bit forgetful. She lives alone and now eats a lot of heat and serve foods from the grocery store. I started stopping by to visit her every day at dinner time and have been preparing her dinner meals for her each day. I talk to her about a plant based diet and the benefits of cutting back on all the snacks and candy she has been recently treating herself to. She still likes her occasional hot dogs and heat and serve food but I do prepare a big salad with each dinner! I shared with her Dr. Barnard’s interview with Dr. Oz about foods that improve memory. I am trying to share with her all the good nutrition topics through media that I can. I would love a copy of this DVD to share with my Aunt and the girls at my knitting group as well! Thank you for all you relentless work you do and for dedicating your life to improving the lives of people all over the planet and the planet itself!

    • Debbie Kuehnle says:

I am currently trying to lose weight and am currently on Weight Watchers, I am interested in implementing a plant based diet, but I am not sure if I can do it and still enjoy eating, I think this book would help me try out some recipes and finally make the switch.

  362. Terry Bailey says:

Thanks for the insightful information. I have been on the plant strong program since July 2012. I now eat foods I haven’t eaten in over 40 years and a lot of new things. I am always for new information to educate myself with.

  363. T&J says:

Jeff’s first Fast Food DVD was and continues to be such a huge help when we changed our diet and lifestyle instantaneously over three years ago upon discovering what causes these terrible life-altering illnesses in our part of the world …and after losing two parents to cancer and nearly losing our 31 yr old daughter to that same dreadful malady. We both returned to normal size and blood work values in short order. Yay!
Every month I hope to order Burgers and Fries since its release but every month come up short …would love to receive this gift DVD! It will get used plenty in our kitchen for sure!

  364. Dalores says:

I would love this because I really want to make my own burgers, but they always just fall apart. One time when I made burgers my daughter called them sand. Tasty, but the texture was like sand. I would really like to get away from buying and eating processed fake “meats”.

  365. Jody says:

I am fighting to overcome a family history of hypertension, diabetes, and weight gain. I would love to have more “ammunition” in my quest to learn everything about healthy eating and living!

  366. Selina S says:

I’d love a copy because I am really struggling losing my last 25 lbs. and because I love making Veggie Burgers (and it’s almost grilling season!!!)

  367. KC Bluesfan says:

I would love a copy to assist me with satisying all the non-vegans when I cook vegan food for them for a week straight this summer

  368. kao says:

Thanks for the ideas… I have been vegetarian for about 30 years and recently decide to remove the dairy and eggs. Two weeks ago I did a “detox” week – of fruits and vegetables – I felt great! This prompted me to remove all the processed foods from my life. I am enjoying how these changes make me feel. The website and blogs are very helping me learn the healthy way to fuel my body. Thank You!!

  369. kristina says:

What a great article!! Loved this information and look forward to using it on my weight loss journey!

  370. Caroline M. says:

I would love a copy as I am very new to the plant-based diet way of life. My husband is somewhat onboard with the idea but this dvd and the food I will be able to make from watching it will sell him on the idea I’ll bet. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  371. Sharon Coultas says:

I’ve been converting to a plant-strong lifestyle over the last 8 to 10 weeks…ever since I read Forks Over Knives and E2. The only problem…I’m gaining weight! After reading your article today, I think I understand why…too much dry cereal and too many seeds and nuts. Now, I will follow your advice and see if I don’t some results at last. Thanks, Jeff!

  372. William Day says:

Wow! Just reading this short article provided a wealth of information. I can only imagine how informative the DVD would be. I’m losing weight but implementing the information in the article should help me get past my current plateau-14 pounds.

  373. LSads says:

I’ve gone plant-based since August and feel amazing! Trying to get my daughter and husband to “come to my side”. Can’t wait to read your column and learn more tips on how to get my family “onboard” and be more healthy!

  374. busymom11 says:

I love Jeff’s DVD’s. They cut through all of the “bologna” and tell it straight. He also offers great ideas on how to eat vegan in the real world. Thanks Jeff.

  375. Janet says:

I really appreciate being able to eat freely w/o counting calories and losing weight. And the food is quite delicious. For some reason I am quite inventive about ways to put foods together, which I was not on the SAD

  376. Emmy says:

So glad that Jeff will be writing every Tuesday. I can’t get enough plant strong information and recipes!

  377. Kim says:

Trying to stay plant strong, new DVD,s cookbooks all keep me motivated and inspired.

  378. robin says:

My husband and I have just watched forks over knives. We were both taken back by what we watched. I challenged my husband to go meat free for one week. I feel great so far. Our week is not done yet we still have 4 days left. He feels great to but is still on the verge of continuing to eat meat. He is a type 1 diabetic high blood pressure and takes cholesterol meds. Would love to see this burgers and fries so i can make new delicious new foods so he will like them and we can stay a plant based family. I have 2 kids also one who is gluten free.

  379. Caroline Pain says:

    Welcome Jeff!!!!
I cannot wait to win your DVD (positive thinking!) for a couple of reasons…
My husband was diagnosed the day before our son got married with Non- hodgkins lymphoma, stage 4. I always thought that we were healthy eaters but knew we could improve. I started to research better ways to eat and came across the Engine 2 book and have never looked back. Vernon was in remiission for 22 months but sadly was hit by the news last week that his cancer has returned. I need to kick his diet up a notch once again and believe that your DVD will teach me even more about nutrition and get Vernon back in to remission.
Personally, I need to lose weight as I am an emotional eater and have turned to the wrong foods since Vernon’s diagnose, so I know that not only will my hubby benifit from your DVD but so will I! :)
I attended Rip’s seminar in Davie, Florida a couple of months ago and found him to be so unbelievabley motivating just as I know you will be!
    Cheers to you, Jeff!
    Caroline :)

  380. Lynn says:

I would love some new plant based recipes that are healthy and satisfying

  381. Kris says:

My husband has a precancancerous condition. After watching FoK, we have been plant strong for over a year. I like to cook, but lately have found myself in a soup/stew rut and would love to bust out with some new ideas!

  382. Carla says:

Approximately a year ago I took responsibility for my health. This was a tough decision seeing that I was raised with doctors knowing everything (well credits: they are educated). But so can individuals. The research is out there. At that same time I got off processed foods, back to healthy fats and homemade/cooked foods. My stomach fat melted and I have managed to maintain my weight. My main purpose was to reduce my blood pressure and cholesterol. Interesting concept for me was my body makes cholesterol and if I give it the right stuff why should I take a pill to reduce something my body makes naturally. Hmmmm. I love the aha! moments when a link is made with something I had previsouly read. I now listen to my body, it tells you a lot if you listen to it. I am still on a quest to gain more knowledge – responsibility is constant.

  383. Darlene says:

It is time to break the cycle that our family is on and I need to be a better role model for my grandchildren who are 12 and 13. Jeff’s DVD is something that I will be able to share with them and if they only walk away with one thing to do differently it is a start. I’m turning 68 next month and because of Engine 2 and Forks I am living a new lifestyle. I always juiced but two months ago I started plant based and it was the best decision I have made for my life. Thanks

  384. Kathryn Yarborough says:

I’m a whole foods vegetarian for 25 years. In the old days, we made burgers from lentils or brazil nuts or grains, but now that we have the option of store bought veggie burger, my health & family health has suffered. So much for the “new days!” Please help me go back & start over!

  385. So helpful, thank you!

  386. sharon says:

I love the plant based diet I discovered from the Engine 2 Diet book. I also work for a emergency response state agency, Cal Fire in California. We have a fitness coordinater in our unit and I shared with him some of the content of this book as possibly something we would like to use in our fitness efforts. I began my plant based diet journey 10 weeks ago as well as juicing as a meal replacement for all the added nutrients as well as part of my weight loss goal. I have lost
16 pounds and feel so energetic and healthy! I also excersise 5 – 6 timrs per week for about an hour per session including cardio, weights and yoga. I am so excited about how I look and feel that I recommend this lifestyle change to anyone who will listen. In fact, I am now considering earning a certification in nutrition so that I can officially spread the good news! Thanks for being part of the solution!

  387. 3eyedjohnny says:

I’ve been plant strong for a little of 2 years and can cook awesome paella, gumbo, jambalaya, cacciatore, stir-fry’s etc. I’ve been striking out with burgers and fries though and it doesn’t seem to improving. I’ve hijacked many recipes and their all still *meh*. Frozen veggie burgers taste like do-do plus they’re filled with tons of stuff I can’t pronounce. Please?

  388. DebBasHol says:

we’re new to this way of eating and need all the help we can get…but feeling fine and losing weight.

  389. Cheryl says:

I must have Jeff’s Burger and Fries book. After deciding to go plant base I feel great and I’m seeing changes in not only in how my clothes fit but my energy level is through the roof. I thought that this past holiday would have been difficult and it was not bad at all. Jeff you have taught me so much about what food do to our body’s both positive and negative I have to learn more. Thank you

  390. Karen Guiney says:

I’d love to make my husband some healthy food!

  391. Anjasmom says:

I am trying to lose weight and eat better and to help my family eat better. This will help.

  392. Edd says:

We live in rural Montana not the easiest place to follow a plant based diet. We need all the help we can get and Mr Novick’s book would be greatly appreciated.

  393. Linda says:

I would love to have a good vegie burger and fries and win the DVD. I started the vegan diet 1 month ago to lower my 374 cholestrol and experience a new healther lifestyle for myself and my seven grandkids. I’ve lost 14 pounds and just had my blood tested again today. Can’t get my husband to give up meat and dairy, but I feel great and don’t miss my old diet. It’s fun learning how to cook all over again.

  394. This is awesome! I have been following Jeff for awhile now and MAN! he is full of endless awesome info! I would love to take home some of his DVDs because I am, within in the next year starting my own Health Coaching business and need all the tools I can get my hands on! I am hoping to one day change the world with good, clean food and information! :) Thank you!

  395. Sue says:

i cant wait to try the burger and fries!

  396. Beauty says:

My husband and son may be enticed to try these “fast foods”. I am already there; I would be grateful if they would join me before any health issues come about.

  397. Sue says:

I am happy to say that after more than a year of my daughter urging me to watch FOK I gave in and have been plant strong since the New Year. Besides the energy and sleeping through the nights that had returned to me, I had no idea the extra weight I had carried around for the last 7 years following a surgery would just come off. Since I am now at an ideal weight I have to make sure I eat enough high calorie density foods in my diet to maintain. I purchased FOK (movie) and pass it around to encourage friends and family to watch it. Without the education the movie offers, it is really a hard concept for some to understand and grasp. The movie is powerful. What a great lifestyle change for me and for so many others!

  398. My decision to go plant strong was for health and to get off some medications. I’m excited for the tests to show my numbers have dropped!

  399. Judi says:

I really want this fast food book. I have been plant based for two months and going strong. This is it for me, the rest of my life. I’m not trying this, this is who I am.
