My interview with Joshua Katcher of The Discerning Brute!

DBTV: Plant Strong! Texas Firefighter, Rip Esselstyn of “The Engine 2 Diet”

Rip Esselstyn lives in Texas. He’s a firefighter, a triathlete, and author of the book “The Engine 2 Diet“, which started out as a 28-day challenge to lower the cholesterol of his fire crew (some with digits in the 340s!), and ended up giving them all (and hundreds of other Austin, Texas firefighters) much more than they bargained for! I chatted with Rip the other day about his book and how it’s changing people’s lives in under 30 days. We talked about everything from amazing pizza recipes, to boners, sports and manliness. Check it out:

About the author

As a firefighter for the Austin Fire Department, he helped people and saved lives. As a friend to other firefighters, he transformed the way Austin ’s Engine 2 firehouse ate in order to save a firefighting brother’s health. Now, as the author of The Engine 2 Diet, Rip is teaching people the irrefutable connection between what they put in their mouths and their ability to reach their ideal weight and their ideal health.

Great interview Rip! I don’t usually allow myself the time to watch these things very often, but you and the interviewer held my interest until the end. I’ve been vegan for 14 years and an athlete as well – I’m ecstatic that there are people like you working to change America. Thanks!

I just want to say thank you for coming up with a way to sell veganism to men! I am a vegan, and I couldn’t serve anything to my boyfriend if I added the words “it’s vegan!”- I just started cooking your recipes and didn’t say anything. he loves them! they are very man-friendly. after sneaking veganism through the back door, I have been able to sell him on reading your book, your dad’s book and the china study. he seems much more open to reading them now that he knows that vegan food isn’t just salads and girly wheatgrass juice and stuff :) i hope you will keep giving a healthy, manly voice to the vegetarian movement!
