A Force of Nature

John Joseph and me at Emo's after he lit the place up!!!

Every once in a while you meet someone who rocks your world. That happened to me last night when I met John Joseph, the lead singer for the punk rock band the Cro-Mag’s. He has more energy than the Tazmanian Devil, is more charismatic than Regis, and has led more lives than an alley cat. He’s a true rebel rouser and when his book, Meat is for Pussies, comes out in July it will turn heads, open eyes and rock worlds. You will see why eating animals will make you wimpy and then spit you out and kill you. Here’s a loud shout out to my man, John Joseph, and his insatiable plant-strong appetite for making a difference in the world. WAY TO BE JJ!!!!!!!!!!

Kindred Spirits in changing the mindset of how America eats.

About the author

As a firefighter for the Austin Fire Department, he helped people and saved lives. As a friend to other firefighters, he transformed the way Austin ’s Engine 2 firehouse ate in order to save a firefighting brother’s health. Now, as the author of The Engine 2 Diet, Rip is teaching people the irrefutable connection between what they put in their mouths and their ability to reach their ideal weight and their ideal health.

  1. C Condit says:

“Meat is for Pussies” is a nasty, demeaning insult about women. It means that men are greater, and women are lesser. Since women are are the main purchasers of diet and cookbooks, perhaps this is not a way to sell the plan or the book.
I enjoyed the book, and I am saddened to see this on your website.

  2. John Joseph says:

Relax C. Condit it’s got nothing to do with women. Its a book marketed to men by a man to help men go veg. And Rip you rock hard brother!

  3. Stonito says:

I have to disagree with C. Condit — John Joseph has lots of female fans and his book is very female friendly, so I don’t know why anyone could get upset about his offbeat title. In fact, Rory Freedman, who wrote the vegan book Skinny Bitch and is one of the top female vegan diet gurus, is not only an enthusiastic supportor of John’s, she wrote a ringing endorsement for his book, and said all women should read it!

  4. Rose says:

Please lets not make a deal out of that title. I am a woman and was NOT offended by the title and I read Skinny Bitch as well.

  5. Steve Norman says:

Wow, I had no idea two of my worlds would collide like this. I am a vegan firefighter that works in Travis County (austin, tx) and I have hardcore roots. I have persuaded my shift to eat better and have gotten one of my co-workers to be plant-strong. I have loved the Cro-Mags for along time and they have been an influence in my going vegetarian which I took to the next level with vegan. I want to give JJ and thank you and Rip for teaming up together to connect different ends of the spectrum. I heard about the meat industry sending meat to the AFD stations. What a bummer! Keep up the good work guys!
