When I went to the E2 immersion in September, I was the only one I knew who was eating this way. When I got home, some people were a bit defensive or confrontational & some thought I was nuts, but I just kept using Doug Lisle's lines ("it's not for everyone, but it seems to be working for me" & people calmed down. Some, though, became interested in what I was doing/learning, especially as I was losing weight effortlessly, feeling great & improving my blood pressure & blood work #s. (Lost about 24 pounds since I went plant strong in August). Anyway, for those who wanted more info, I told them about E2, the China Study, Jeff Novick, Forks over Knives, etc, lent them books & DVDs I've been accumulating (I bought Jeff's lecture series, the E2 Kitchen Rescue, Processed People, Fat Sick & Nearly Dead, FoverK & some others), brought plant strong recipes to parties (where people were amazed at how good the dishes were… the E2 Sweet Potato Lasagna was a BIG hit, & sent them favorite recipes & links to websites. Slowly, more & more local friends started transitioning their diets & seeing results (plus my sister & brother-in-law, who I visited & cooked for when I saw them in November are also making big dietary changes & enjoying them).
Now, 5 months later, I have a criticial mass of friends who are bringing plant strong dishes to parties (at Thanksgiving & to some degree over Christmas, I basically could only eat what I brought myself). And in a few weeks, I'll actually be starting up monthly plant-strong potlucks in my community! My Facebook page has 22 people (friends & friends of friends so far) that want to participate!! We're going to make a dish to share, with enough for leftovers that everyone can take home, plus bring the recipe of what we prepared to hand out (or I may do this via the FB page). Also, after the meal, I've proposed showing a DVD from my collection each month to those who are interested in learning more…
Needless to say, I'm pretty excited about all the change going on around me, how my friends are also starting to improve their health & actually having people to share my foodstyle with.
