Do significant changes need to be made to the general plant strong diet with the goal of increasing lean body mass?

Not really, just make sure you eat enough calories.

I didn't think it was the calories you had to watch? Just eat when you're hungry. Stay away from the bad fats, becareful of how much good fat you take in and If you need to add protein to your diet check out Brendan Brazier's VEGA line. If I'm wrong please advise as I am still new to the working out and going vegan….

The key in my opinion is an effective strength based training program. I started vegan in September of 2011 and started losing weight. Starting in November I began working out 6 days a week using non-traditional training methods, such as TRX suspension training, medicine ball work, heavy rope training and kettle bells. My workouts are fast paced with very little rest so my heart rate stays high.
I am 6'2" and started at 254 and am now 217. Like the other two posts shared, just make sure you're eating enough good quality calories.
Good luck!
