How can I improve my HDL numbers? My number currently is not doing well. My doctor recommends exercise first and if it does not help, I will have to take medication and I do not want to take medicine. Before starting a new life vegan, I had a better number eating the Western Diet but I also exercised. I am so lost right now. I feel dizzy at times but my doctor stated that all of blood work came back normal outside of my HDL number. She tested my kidneys and glucose as well and all was normal. I had a complete CBC, EKG, Thyroid and others and the test were normal. Like I stated before, I do not exercise due to the dizziness at times. I am not sure about my B12 and iron. I get cold a lot when everyone else is warm. I JUST DONT KNOW RIGHT NOW.

Hi Sherelle,
I am sorry you are struggling so…it's hard, I know. None of us are doctors so we can offer you words of kindness, support and caring – and some wisdom now and then. However, you have a complicated problem, it sounds like – and not something we can solve for you.
But – we can care and encourage. Are there ways that have been helpful when trying to calm yourself? It sounds like that could be a place to start – calm down, follow your doctor's advice and…exercise. Just start there to the extent you feel well enough. Eating a plant based diet is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Just put one foot in front of the other.

Hi Sherelle
I go to a Chiropractor who told me that the only sure way to increase HDL levels is through exercise.
He also does a test called called a Functional Medicine Analysis – he takes a sample of saliva, a sample of urine and through whatever analysis they do they can figure out what your body is doing in between, how efficient (or not) your body is at producing energy for example, how hydrated you are amongst a bunch of other other things.
Dizziness though – are you eating enough or regular enough?

Sherelle, On Dr. Esselstyn's website his answer to the question of the rise in triglycerides is to cut back on starches like anything from white flour, alcohol, sugars, honey, molasses, syrup, dried fruit and any excess of fruit. Dr. Esselstyn's plan limits fruit to 3 servings a day.
Good Luck
